Книга представляет собой сборник избранных трудов заслуженного деятеля науки, доктора географических наук, профессора Н.И.Маккавеева (1908 - 1983), посвященных теоретическим проблемам эрозии почв и русловых процессов, флювиальной и динамической геоморфологии ; в ряде статей рассматриваются также принципиальные вопросы, связанные с переформированием русел на судоходных реках, поискам аллювиальных россыпных месторождений полезных ископаемых, защиты почв от эрозии.

In 1992, the first conference on Braided Rivers was held at the Geological Society of London (Best & Bristow, 1993). It sought to bring together a wide range of practitioners, primarily sedimentologists, geomorphologists and engineers, to review the state-of-the-art in research, and discuss common problems and future research directions.

The landforms of Austria are the direct consequence of a continuous interplay between tectonic and climatic forces that have built, destroyed and reshaped the surface of the most iconic mountain belt on Earth for almost 40 Million years. As such, landforms can only be understood with a thorough geological background. This paper gives an overview of the tectonic evolution, the geological build up and the landscape evolution in the Austrian territory. The tectonic evolution of the rocks forming the major tectonic units of Austria can be traced back to some 500 Million years when they were located at different ancient continents including Gondwana, Avalonia and Laurasia. In the late Palaeozoic, the basement rocks were affected by the Variscan tectonometamorphic event during amalgamation of the supercontinent Pangaea and by a Permian extensional event.

Книга обосновывает и раскрывает принципиально новую трактовку природы карста Предгорного Крыма и его роли в региональном геоморфогенезе. На основе систематических комплексных исследований, включающих современные изотопные и геохимические методы, доказано гипогенное происхождение карстовых полостей в регионе, а также их контролирующая роль в последующем расчленении моноклинали Предгорья и формировании куэстового и останцового рельефа региона.

The photographs in this book cover all the main topics of geomorphology: rivers, glaciation, coasts, deserts, chalk and limestone, coral and volcanoes. However, all the pictures on one topic are not grouped together but are arranged so that pictures of landforms which look similar but have different origins are side by side, or at least close together. This demonstrates one purpose of this book, the recognition of landforms by familiarity with clear photographs of them.

The landscapes and landforms of Scotland are renowned for their outstanding geodiversity, the outcome of a long and complex geological evolution, Cenozoic uplift and etchplanation, and modification by glacial and interglacial processes during the Quaternary.
