Atlas of natural and induced fractures in core / Атлас естественных и искусственных трещин в керне

We were once emailed a long list of questions, arranged with paragraph‐sized spaces below each question for our  detailed answers and including photos of specific cored fractures, from a student starting to work on fractured cores. The questions were both basic and important, and included queries such as: Are both the slabs and butt of the cores used in fracture studies? How do you distinguish extension from shear fractures?

Atlas of palaeogeography and lithofacies / Палеогеографический атлас и атлас литофаций

Almost forty years have elapsed since Leonard Wills published his 'Palaeogeographical Atlas of the British Isles'; those forty years have seen a revolution in the earth sciences which has overturned many earlier ideas in geology. Palaeogeography has been affected just as much as other parts of the subject by this change.
The advent of the plate tectonic theory has transformed our ideas of the Lower Palaeozoic palaeogeographical evolution of the British area and has rendered totally obsolete many aspects of Wills' maps. The application of plate tectonics has caused us to produce totally new palaeogeographical models for the late Precambrian and early Palaeozoic, and has emphasised that definitive palaeogeographies for this time interval cannot yet be compiled. Wills was at pains to point out that his Atlas was an 'Aunt Sally' at which to 'hurl one's own and other field observations'--our atlas too must be viewed in that light. <...>

Atlas of rock-forming minerals in thin section / Атлас породообразующих минералов в шлифах

The purpose of this book is to illustrate the appearance of many of the common rockforming minerals in thin section under the microscope. It is not our intention that it should be used as a substitute lor a mineralogy text book but rather as a laboratory handbook for use in practical classes together with one ot the standard textbooks on mineralogy <...>

Atlas of sedimentary rocks under the microscope / Атлас осадочных пород под микроскопом

The study of rocks using thin sections and a petrographic microscope was initiated by llcnry Clifton Sorby in the middle of the nineteenth century and the first rocks he described were silicified limestones from the Jurassic in Yorkshire. This work was published in 1851. His presidential address to the Geological Society of London in 1879 was entitled 'On the structure and origin of limestones' and Sorby had a series of plates. made from camera Iucida drawings, reproduced for private circulation with copies of the text of his address. These illustrated the microscopic characteristics oflimestones from throughout the British geological record and amounted to the first petrographic atlas <...>

Atlas of shear zone structures in meso-scale / Атлас структур зоны сдвига в мезомасштабе

Interpretation of structures from field is an integral part of structural geology. While research papers cannot display morphologic variations of individual structures, an atlas of field structural snaps remained due. This book fills up that gap. I have drawn most examples from western Himalayan shear zones. The reader is suggested to consult the key papers in the ‘References’ section for more information. I welcome comments and counterarguments at: soumyajitm@gmail.com <...>

Atlas of structural geological and geomorphological interpretation of remote sensing images / Атлас структурно-геологической и геоморфологической интерпретации изображений дистанционного зондирования

Remote sensing has been immensely useful in tectonics, structural geology, and geomorphic studies (e.g. Misra et al. 2014; Dasgupta and Mukherjee 2017, 2019; Shaikh et al. 2020; Dasgupta et al. 2022). This edited book consists of 24 chapters authored and co-authored by 53 persons from 21 academic organizations and industries from 7 countries.
Misra (2022a; Chapter 1) presents the definition, fundamental processes, and scopes of remote sensing in structural geologic and geomorphologic studies. Misra (2022b; Chapter 2) pens the next introductory chapter, which classifies remote sensing based on data type, source, platform, and imaging media. Gupta and Biswas (2022, Chapter 3) present a morpho-tectonic analysis of a mid-channel bar using remote sensing images from the Jaldhaka river (India). Deota et al. (2022, Chapter 4) present geomorphic indicators of glacier retreat from Jorya-Garang glacier, Baspa Valley (India). They identify different stages of moraines. Jordan (2022, Chapter 5) presents several interesting aerial views of the 2018 Kilauea eruption (U.S.A). Geomorphic features such as lava fissures are documented from images. Awais (2022, Chapter 6) documents different kinds of depositional systems observable in images in Google Earth, viz. different rivers, deltas, lakes, alluvial fans, dunes, and estuaries. Patel et al. (2022, Chapter 7) discuss in detail badland geomorphology from images and several field photos. Their study area was Garbeta (India). Dongare et al. (2022, Chapter 8) discuss the geomorphology of the Indian west coast.

Atlas of structural geological interpretation from seismic images / Атлас интерпретированных геологических структур по данным сейсморазведки

Analyses of geological structures from field exposure of rocks have been one of the important and intriguing disciplines in (applied) Earth Sciences. Since the 1990s, especially after the boom of three‐dimensional seismic technologies, reflection seismic data in two and three dimensions have become the modern ‘field’ for geologists.

Atlas of structural geology / Структурно-геологический атлас

Two of the most intensely studied aspects in structural geology are morphology and the genesis of folds (Ramsay, 1967; Hudleston and Lan, 1993; Ez, 2000; Harris et al., 2002; Harris, 2003; Alsop and Holdsworth, 2004; Carreras et al., 2005; Bell, 2010; Hudleston and Treagus, 2010; Godin et al., 2011; Harris et al., 2012a,b; Llorens et al., 2013; Mukherjee et al., 2015; Gogoi and Mukherjee, 2019). Of particular importance is whether folds found inside ductile shear zones are related to ductile shear (e.g., Carreras et al., 2005; Bell, 2010). This chapter presents folds of different geometries and generations, some related with ductile shear zones, from different scales (Figures 1.1–1.118). Figure 1.38 describes the compaction of mudstone. For general principles of compaction, consult the recent publications Mukherjee and Kumar (2018) and Dasgupta and Mukherjee (2020). Interestingly, hook-shaped folds typical of reverse shear kinematics are presented in Figure 1.57. A detailed review of reverse shear is available in Dutta and Mukherjee (2019); also see Dutta and Mukherjee (2020). See Mukherjee et al. (2020) for fold morphologies from other terrains. Folded surfaces, some of which taken from this chapter, have been used in fitting curves, for example, Gogoi et al. (2017, 2020). This shows a potential of use of snaps of structures with a similar purpose (e.g., Biswas and Mukherjee, 2020). <...>

Atlas of structural geology / Структурно-геологический атлас

Documentation of structures in different scales is the first step in many structural geological studies. This edited atlas gives an overview of diverse structures. Due to lack of space or inappropriateness, sometimes interesting structural snaps cannot be published in journals. This book fills that gap.
