The Hoggar, which forms the Algerian part of the Tuareg shield, is an ideal site for geoscientific studies. As the site of successive orogenies, it offers a single example of the problems that arise on a continental scale, whether in terms of magmatism, metamorphism, structure, metallogeny or geophysics. The features it contains are all the more interesting in that they cover the earliest periods of the Earth and its continents, as well as the most recent upheavals. We are looking for evidence of unique primitive tectonics in the Archaean and Palaeoproterozoic, modern Pan-African plate tectonics and manifestations of intraplate volcanism in the Cenozoic and Quaternary. It is a recent Cenozoic uplift, mainly Eocene (English et al., 2017; Rougier et al., 2013), due to intraplate volcanism, that is responsible for the outcrop of Precambrian terrains in this segment of Precambrian crust. It is now unconformably surrounded by Ordovician Tassili sandstones, which probably covered it prior to this uplift and subsequent erosion. It is therefore easy to understand the interest it has aroused in many geologists for almost a century, since the illustrious pioneering work of Kilian (1932) and Lelubre (1952).
