Field measurements in geomechanics / Полевые измерения в геомеханике

The role of field measurements in risk assessment and the control of natural geohazards, in engineering design, construction and operation of engineering facilities has grown in the past and will undoubtedly grow in years to come with ever increasing demands on the engineering skills of people involved in these activities. It is therefore necessary to give those interested in instrumentation and measurements an opportunity to meet regularly to exchange ideas and experiences and to stimulate further advancement within field instrumentation. The international symposia for Field Measurements in GeoMechanics, FMGM as an acronym, are organized to serve this purpose.

This publication covers the 6th International Symposium on Field Measurements in Geomechanics, FMGM 2003, held in Oslo, Norway from 15–18 September, 2003. The great interest and large attendance at this symposium have once again clearly manifested the need for speciality conferences of this kind as for the previous five FMGM symposia held in Switzerland (1983), Japan (1987), Norway (1991), Italy (1995) and Singapore (1999). The 7th one is planned to be held in USA in 2007. <...>
