This is not a recipe book, nor does it provide a clean outline of steps to generate resource models, or derivations of complex theories/mathematics. Instead, this is a book for pragmatists that follows on from “The Art and Science of Resource Estimation” and caters for mining professionals who are looking for that next step in developing their insight so they can critique methods and parameters with competence and confidence, and raise the quality of resource models.
This book takes a pragmatic look at the core estimation techniques of Inverse Distance, Ordinary (and Simple) Kriging as well as Multiple Indicator Kriging to evaluate their suitability for contexts, and the sensitivities due to parameters and/or assumptions. We also take an in-depth examination of recoverable estimation techniques such as Uniform Conditioning and Multiple Indicator Kriging, contrasting global and local approaches and examining practical testing of assumptions. An exposé on variances, correction factors, information effect and assumptions are all included. There is also an entire chapter devoted to exploring the parameters that apply across all estimation techniques (such as geology and domaining, boundary analyses, top cut analyses, compositing), as well as a chapter on model validation.
