This textbook aims to explain the physics behind seismic ground motion and seismic waves for graduate and late undergraduate students or professionals. Both seismic ground motions and seismic waves are terms used for the “shaking” produced by earthquakes. However, in some instances, the shaking in the near-field of an earthquake source may be referred to as seismic ground motion, whereas shaking in the far-field may be referred to as seismic waves. The title “Ground Motion Seismology” indicates that this work explains in detail the equations and methods used for analyses and computations of shaking near an earthquake source.
